<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
I'm participating in the Farm Girl Vintage quilt along with <a href="http://www.beeinmybonnetco.blogspot.com/">Lori Hol</a>t.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7YTvFbYFNWA/VblfhLMSz7I/AAAAAAAAEcw/W0otNvqxPm4/s640/blogger-image--1879167302.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7YTvFbYFNWA/VblfhLMSz7I/AAAAAAAAEcw/W0otNvqxPm4/s640/blogger-image--1879167302.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm behind, but I thought you might like to see what I have done so far. <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I don't have a farm, but I am a farm girl at heart. I always dreamed of owning a farm with cows, chickens, pigs, and a barn with a quilt block painted on it, but this is a close as it will ever get: </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4tMLBbUK3HI/VblfqJ8LWyI/AAAAAAAAEc4/9aRLTzo6XOw/s640/blogger-image--1498469589.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4tMLBbUK3HI/VblfqJ8LWyI/AAAAAAAAEc4/9aRLTzo6XOw/s640/blogger-image--1498469589.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
seeing the cows at Terry's (my best friend and quilting buddy) and </div>
</div>
<div>
this birdhouse that my husband built and our daughter painted quilt blocks on three sides. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6T1hLJIU4Js/Vb45fyRKbOI/AAAAAAAAEeU/dRR9Ehp3n6k/s640/blogger-image-1078691543.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6T1hLJIU4Js/Vb45fyRKbOI/AAAAAAAAEeU/dRR9Ehp3n6k/s640/blogger-image-1078691543.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KcvDxqND6vo/Vb45Q30mtVI/AAAAAAAAEd8/VvPQSpKExvk/s640/blogger-image--1269463567.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KcvDxqND6vo/Vb45Q30mtVI/AAAAAAAAEd8/VvPQSpKExvk/s640/blogger-image--1269463567.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They made it for me for Mother's Day and it is "planted" in one of my flower beds. I love it! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When I was choosing fabrics to make my blocks for the Farm Girl Vintage Quilt Along I chose my huge stash of 1930's fabrics. I sorted them into colors and placed each basket on a shelf in my sewing room. </div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
"Apron Strings" was the first block. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6K7oM1Q_rHA/Vb45lCsF5GI/AAAAAAAAEec/XepFoQn9U9U/s640/blogger-image--1291068396.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6K7oM1Q_rHA/Vb45lCsF5GI/AAAAAAAAEec/XepFoQn9U9U/s640/blogger-image--1291068396.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lori had instructions on how to make a pincushion from a 6 1/2" block, so of course I had to make one! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wzPsDsvaAEQ/Vb1fE0-tWSI/AAAAAAAAEdg/4S87tHS7jrw/s640/blogger-image-88061421.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-wzPsDsvaAEQ/Vb1fE0-tWSI/AAAAAAAAEdg/4S87tHS7jrw/s640/blogger-image-88061421.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And I made another one and turned it into a mug rug for my coffee cup. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4IJ72iE9ejU/Vb45V59NwMI/AAAAAAAAEeE/ARQi6D9GTKE/s640/blogger-image-1071019740.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4IJ72iE9ejU/Vb45V59NwMI/AAAAAAAAEeE/ARQi6D9GTKE/s640/blogger-image-1071019740.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I love that Lori has 2 different sizes for each block and she gives us other ideas on how to use the blocks. Each Friday she posts ideas on 2 different blocks. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is Autumn Star: </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Q8ZurAQYvd8/Vblfv9pVmOI/AAAAAAAAEdA/3by61YmS8kA/s640/blogger-image--1978904748.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Q8ZurAQYvd8/Vblfv9pVmOI/AAAAAAAAEdA/3by61YmS8kA/s640/blogger-image--1978904748.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
(My Hoosier cabinet is the perfect backdrop for my blocks, especially with my first cookbook when I was a little girl.) </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Whew! I'm happy to see that I didn't lose my piecing skills after not sewing for a few months. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here is Baby Chick. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B6iv5VFWevE/Vb45a5Mfr1I/AAAAAAAAEeM/kPqf3cVHPls/s640/blogger-image-909706893.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B6iv5VFWevE/Vb45a5Mfr1I/AAAAAAAAEeM/kPqf3cVHPls/s640/blogger-image-909706893.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I love her little heart. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Here is Milking Day: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B6iv5VFWevE/Vb45a5Mfr1I/AAAAAAAAEeM/kPqf3cVHPls/s640/blogger-image-909706893.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-SqXd2Ibu8as/Vblf4-xCOsI/AAAAAAAAEdI/UCZiXOffNaU/s640/blogger-image--1029161500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-SqXd2Ibu8as/Vblf4-xCOsI/AAAAAAAAEdI/UCZiXOffNaU/s640/blogger-image--1029161500.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
This is such a sweet looking block. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Here is Baking Day. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-SqXd2Ibu8as/Vblf4-xCOsI/AAAAAAAAEdI/UCZiXOffNaU/s640/blogger-image--1029161500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DeskxXWHOMM/Vb45LDx3dzI/AAAAAAAAEd0/FIjYN2d04U8/s640/blogger-image--1515267359.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DeskxXWHOMM/Vb45LDx3dzI/AAAAAAAAEd0/FIjYN2d04U8/s640/blogger-image--1515267359.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I love the stack of bowls and the wooden spoon. This gets me in the mood to bake chocolate chip cookies! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I guess that's as far as I have gotten. I think I have made more, but I didn't shoot their picture, yet. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I decided that since I had scraps from cutting my 1930's stash that I would organize them by size so that when I need them they are ready! I went to Dollar General and bought these stackable organizers. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9Z86F4OdTns/Vb45qJ1n4kI/AAAAAAAAEek/53zKEpDX5Yk/s640/blogger-image-38490744.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9Z86F4OdTns/Vb45qJ1n4kI/AAAAAAAAEek/53zKEpDX5Yk/s640/blogger-image-38490744.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I labeled each one with stickers. Before I cut from my stash for a new block, I check to see if I already have a size cut. Anything I can do to help me stay organized also helps me save time. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Are you doing the Farm Girl Vintage quilt along? If so, leave me a comment. I would love to see your blocks. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Happy Quilting! </div>

A lot has happened since the last time I posted. I had surgery on my right leg, so that kept me from sewing. I went from a wheel chair, to a walker, to a cane. After 6 months of physical therapy, </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KBT1cTfVY2k/Va6bkON7FLI/AAAAAAAAEcI/oreXeM_8iZE/s640/blogger-image-1296715487.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KBT1cTfVY2k/Va6bkON7FLI/AAAAAAAAEcI/oreXeM_8iZE/s640/blogger-image-1296715487.jpg"></a></div> </div><div>I still can't run, but I will get there! I loved my hot pink cane! </div><div><br></div><div>I'm glad those days are over!! </div><div><br></div><div>I have been sewing and teaching. Yesterday I went to a friend's house to teach her how to paper piece. </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ldEECZnVbpI/Va6bofzKQyI/AAAAAAAAEcQ/jpZ2PNNFefk/s640/blogger-image--415873019.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ldEECZnVbpI/Va6bofzKQyI/AAAAAAAAEcQ/jpZ2PNNFefk/s640/blogger-image--415873019.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>She had signed up to take this class at our quilt guild's workshop, but she had to work. I offered to teach her during our Monday Morning Coffee Quilters get together. She is always the hostess, and, as it turned out, </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Cq83rzo3jf4/Va6bfTVx5MI/AAAAAAAAEcA/wOpNiHYCI0Q/s640/blogger-image-2042949502.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Cq83rzo3jf4/Va6bfTVx5MI/AAAAAAAAEcA/wOpNiHYCI0Q/s640/blogger-image-2042949502.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>we were the only two there! It was probably a good thing because paper piecing takes a lot of concentration especially if you have never paper pieced before. She was able to get the top of her tree completed. </div><div><br></div><div>This is the Tall Trim the Tree by Cindi Edgerton. </div><div><br></div><div>So, I thought long and hard as to whether or not to start writing on my blog after being away for so long, and I decided to start back because I love to write and share my love of quilting and all the things that keep me busy. </div><div><br></div><div>I'm glad to be back. 😊</div><div><br></div><div>Amanda</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div> </div>Busy Little Quilterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11030043135910710800noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6289166255532512820.post-10352097682237325602014-11-27T23:11:00.000-06:002014-11-27T23:11:13.932-06:00It's a Grand Illusion Mystery! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">It's time for Bonnie Hunter's annual winter mystery quilt. This year's quilt is called Grand Illusion. </span> </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dgdftdhM-yk/VHf_1Xj4BnI/AAAAAAAAEaU/Sykfvq_CkEY/s1600/badge1_150.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dgdftdhM-yk/VHf_1Xj4BnI/AAAAAAAAEaU/Sykfvq_CkEY/s1600/badge1_150.gif" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-small;">Tomorrow (Friday, November 28) she will start revealing clues, and I can't wait! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-small;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-small;">Last month she gave us color ideas so that we could start selecting fabrics from our stash. She told us which Valspar paint cards to get from Lowe's. </span><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: x-small;">Shortly afterwards, my Quilt Guild took a bus trip to several quilt shops in Western Kentucky. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: x-small;"><br />Here are my friends and I, with our paint cards in hand, choosing fabrics. Both of them fell in love with the yellow I chose, so they were waiting to have some cut for themselves, too! <br /><br />You, too, can join in on the mystery quilt. It's free, and anybody and join in on the fun. You can find more about the mystery <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/grand-illusion-mystery.html"><b>here</b></a>. </span></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
It's another Sewjo Saturday at <a href="http://gogokim.blogspot.com/2014/06/sewjo-saturday.html">Kim's</a>, and I have been sewing the last minute details for the quilts that I am entering in my Quilt Guild's Quilt Show coming up in a couple of weeks. I will do another post about it when I have more time. <br />
<br />
Every quilt entered in our show has to be quilted (not tied), bound, a sleeve for hanging, and a label. My best friend, Terry, is a long-arm quilter. She has three of my quilts getting ready to be quilted. She said it will be the last minute before I get my quilts, so she offered to sew the binding, the sleeves, and the labels on my quilts so that I will have time to hand stitch the things that I need to hand stitch. What a great friend! <br />
<br />
Today I sewed bindings for the three quilts. I forgot to figure up how many yards of binding I made, but it's a lot. I didn't want to just throw my binding into a bag and say "here ya go" especially after I took the time to press them. I was trying to find a neater way to give them to her, and I came up with an idea that I thought I would share with you. <br />
<br />
At first I was using my fingers, and it seemed to take forever, and the roll did not look circular. I looked around (I don't remember having any empty toilet paper rolls around the house), so I found this: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j_Ax11HW71g/U5zNrmUVDPI/AAAAAAAAEXU/m0Ir4Q5hw5M/s1600/IMG_1832.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-j_Ax11HW71g/U5zNrmUVDPI/AAAAAAAAEXU/m0Ir4Q5hw5M/s1600/IMG_1832.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
a small roller with masking tape for gathering threads from projects. I decided that it needed something to wrap around the tape so the first part of my binding wouldn't stick and be hard to remove. So I found a strip of fabric and I rolled it on to the roller over the tape like this: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xBQTIdBuiF8/U5zNy0ZvrDI/AAAAAAAAEXk/myO6hnNWDuw/s1600/IMG_1836.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xBQTIdBuiF8/U5zNy0ZvrDI/AAAAAAAAEXk/myO6hnNWDuw/s1600/IMG_1836.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I then took my piece of binding and started rolling. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8o_bmZ7or0g/U5zN5azAlXI/AAAAAAAAEX0/XzexsKf9KBU/s1600/IMG_1839.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8o_bmZ7or0g/U5zN5azAlXI/AAAAAAAAEX0/XzexsKf9KBU/s1600/IMG_1839.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I rolled, and rolled, and rolled some more (this was for a queen size quilt 98x98). Finally it looked like this: </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qgb_5339KMo/U5zN5JJSYFI/AAAAAAAAEXw/4Zy0Tj-JrNk/s1600/IMG_1842.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qgb_5339KMo/U5zN5JJSYFI/AAAAAAAAEXw/4Zy0Tj-JrNk/s1600/IMG_1842.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I gently pulled it off the roller (the piece of fabric really helped keep the binding from sticking to the roller.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BSEJXCGkJqI/U5zN_j6yBdI/AAAAAAAAEX8/wsGfxAfeKxM/s1600/IMG_1847.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BSEJXCGkJqI/U5zN_j6yBdI/AAAAAAAAEX8/wsGfxAfeKxM/s1600/IMG_1847.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
Cute, huh? You can pin the end so it doesn't unravel. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tml93ZIz3wU/U5zOEBOSicI/AAAAAAAAEYE/9sRHCPgIp6E/s1600/IMG_1848.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tml93ZIz3wU/U5zOEBOSicI/AAAAAAAAEYE/9sRHCPgIp6E/s1600/IMG_1848.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
These would be so cute sitting in a jar on a shelf in my studio while waiting to return from Terry <strike>instead of waiting until the last minute to cut and sew them together.</strike><br />
<br />
I also made labels.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Y-KYvCAqxhg/U5zOHP78rzI/AAAAAAAAEYM/Yox25xlMpEM/s1600/IMG_1850.JPG" height="320" width="239" /><span id="goog_1024844686"></span><span id="goog_1024844687"></span><a href="https://www.blogger.com/"></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Terry can place the raw edges of the label along the raw edges of the quilt. As she is sewing on the binding, it will cover the edges of the label and the quilt. I can whip stitch the folded edge while I'm watching TV. I first saw this technique <b><a href="http://www.quiltville.com/">here</a></b> at Bonnie Hunter's website (scroll to the bottom of the page.) Pat Sloan also has a technique, too, that you can find <b><a href="http://blog.patsloan.com/2014/03/pat-sloan-triangle-label-tutorial.html">here</a></b>. <br />
<br />
Sewing bindings and labels is part of the quilting process. It's the little things (and probably the most time consuming) that help us finish our quilts. <br />

<br />
<a href="http://mygogolife.blogspot.com/">Kim</a> is hosting another Sewjo Saturday, which is always fun. You can go and look at the other people who have joined in and shared projects, as well. Although it is Sunday, I wanted to share with you what I have been working on this weekend. <br />
<br />
People who have been following my blog know that I have been busy working on the <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/celtic-solstice-mystery.html">Celtic Solstice Mystery</a> that <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/">Bonnie Hunter</a> designed. If you are interested in making Celtic Solstice Bonnie will be taking down the link to the PDF instructions on May 31, just so you know. <br />
<br />
I am still working on my Birds in the Air units that I shared with you from other Sewjo Saturdays <a href="http://busylittlequilter.blogspot.com/2014/05/getting-my-sewjo-going.html">here</a> and <a href="http://busylittlequilter.blogspot.com/2014/05/birds-in-air-continued.html">here</a>. I didn't realize I had been working on them for so long! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jrR5L1d4WSc/U4JXdsJ8a9I/AAAAAAAAEVQ/TLo_Rp8Ykm8/s1600/IMG_1810.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jrR5L1d4WSc/U4JXdsJ8a9I/AAAAAAAAEVQ/TLo_Rp8Ykm8/s1600/IMG_1810.JPG" height="320" width="277" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I sew a little, square up a little, and sew a little, again. Eventually I will get them all finished. I did square up a few yesterday in between yard work and cleaning my house. <br />
<br />
I'm getting a little tired of doing these, so I gathered up fabrics from my stash to create the June small quilt from Count on It, a book from <a href="http://shop.arttoheart.com/product.sc?productId=622&categoryId=2">Art to Heart</a>. I love to make seasonal quilts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is all fused (with Heat and Bond lite) and ready to applique. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I posted another Sewjo Saturday, but Kim was busy getting ready for quilt market. You can see my post <a href="http://busylittlequilter.blogspot.com/2014/05/sewjo-saturday.html">here,</a> just in case you missed. it. I made cute camping bags for my daughter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Do you do fun little projects in between more time consuming projects? </div>

<br />
It's another Sewjo Saturday at <a href="http://gogokim%2Cblogspot%2Ccom/">Kim's </a>, I think. She's busy getting ready for quilt market, but I'm posting anyway, just in case. <br />
<br />
Last Saturday was my first time to participate in Sewjo Saturday and I met so many "new to me" quilting bloggers. Participating in Sew alongs and linky parties is a great way to meet people in blogland. <br />
<br />
One of the bloggers I met last weekend was Rebecca at <a href="http://www.ourbusylittlebunch.com/">Our Busy Little Bunch.</a> I was looking through her tutorials, and while I was there, I saw this <a href="http://www.ourbusylittlebunch.com/2011/06/camping-shower-bag-tutorial.html">Camping-Shower Bag Tutorial</a>. Our youngest daughter, Julia, is traveling to Alabama to a music festival. She is staying in a tent at a camp ground. <br />
<br />
I don't think Julia has ever "roughed it" before. Well, come to think of it, I never "roughed" it either because my parents had an Air Stream Travel Trailer back in the 60's and 70's. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_lksYf-bYkg/U25GAzEUohI/AAAAAAAAES4/CRIB7ec_jtc/s1600/mak643_4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_lksYf-bYkg/U25GAzEUohI/AAAAAAAAES4/CRIB7ec_jtc/s1600/mak643_4.jpg" height="159" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The only "rough" part was cleaning it after we came home from traveling in Arkansas or to the lake every weekend. Seeing that travel trailer brings back a lot of fun memories! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are showers at the camp ground. When <a href="http://ourbusylittlebunch.com/">Rebecca</a> mentioned the issues with carrying toiletries from the tent to the bathroom, I thought these bags would be cute for Julia and her friend that is going with her. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MKgTQ76g3Ow/U25CjFkWrOI/AAAAAAAAER8/Nn7FNQ5t1qc/s1600/101_0416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-MKgTQ76g3Ow/U25CjFkWrOI/AAAAAAAAER8/Nn7FNQ5t1qc/s1600/101_0416.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Everything looks prettier hanging on my white picket fence with the Iris' blooming. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There is a little pocket on the outside to carry a razor, toothbrush, and a small tube of toothpaste. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ujc69vGwODQ/U25CjD5DLYI/AAAAAAAAER4/pjsV4qtbS04/s1600/101_0417.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ujc69vGwODQ/U25CjD5DLYI/AAAAAAAAER4/pjsV4qtbS04/s1600/101_0417.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The inside is large enough to hold shampoo, conditioner, and whatever else she needs to keep close by when she is in the shower. She can use the straps to hang it if there is a hook close by. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Rebecca suggested using Polyurethane Laminated Fabric for the inside lining. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--6hd40YMS0Q/U25CjHYTJJI/AAAAAAAAER0/ks6Wb2OhIWg/s1600/101_0418.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--6hd40YMS0Q/U25CjHYTJJI/AAAAAAAAER0/ks6Wb2OhIWg/s1600/101_0418.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The stores around here (Hancock's and Jo Ann's) had no idea what it was. I used a Rip Stop water resistant fabric that is used to make flags. </div>
<br />
These bags were a perfect "rest" between making <a href="http://busylittlequilter.blogspot.com/2014/05/birds-in-air-continued.html">Celtic Solstice block parts</a>. Making something quick, easy, and cute is what I need every once in a while. <br />

<br /></div>
Happy Sunday! <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm still working on my Bird's in the Air blocks for my Celtic Solstice quilt that is a Bonnie Hunter mystery. (You can click on the Celtic Solstice button on my sidebar to find the instructions. They are free now until June 2014.) Although it's more fun to sit at the sewing machine and sew, I spent time on Saturday getting the little parts ready for chain piecing. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Ffuc9hZBhOE/U2Ze4FrPI-I/AAAAAAAAERQ/xd9qip6wPj8/s640/blogger-image-654160469.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Ffuc9hZBhOE/U2Ze4FrPI-I/AAAAAAAAERQ/xd9qip6wPj8/s640/blogger-image-654160469.jpg" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I can leave these by my sewing machine and, as I'm going about my day, I can sit for a few minutes and sew. My little seedlings that I started from seeds are calling my name to be replanted to something larger. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Today I will sew a little, plant a little, (clean house a little). This is my first time to have a greenhouse. I bought it at Big Lots on sale at the end of the season last year. There are tomatoes, sunflowers, zinnias, zucchini, and eggplants. They are looking great! </div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">Now that I have all of my Chevron blocks finished for the Celtic Solstice Mystery of Bonnie Hunter's (you can see them <b><a href="http://busylittlequilter.blogspot.com/2014/04/paper-piecing-chevrons.html">here</a>)</b> , it gave me the excitement of trying to complete the next step: Birds in the Air.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ogOMen3z2NY/U2RX9-xje3I/AAAAAAAAEQU/MS809re969s/s1600/10258492_10201946238753450_787116516674507642_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ogOMen3z2NY/U2RX9-xje3I/AAAAAAAAEQU/MS809re969s/s1600/10258492_10201946238753450_787116516674507642_n.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This block includes the left over half square triangles from <a href="http://busylittlequilter.blogspot.com/2013/12/celtic-solstice-week-3.html">Step 3</a>: Pinwheels. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I2fKzveMZXs/U2Rbnj4ckwI/AAAAAAAAEQc/naEUkO-SVQE/s1600/blogger-image--481154081.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I2fKzveMZXs/U2Rbnj4ckwI/AAAAAAAAEQc/naEUkO-SVQE/s1600/blogger-image--481154081.jpg" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I made...hmm... I don't know how many I made. All I know is that I made <i>a lot </i>of them. And I found an easy way to make them by using the Magic 8 technique for making half-square triangles. Making 8 half-square triangles at one time is such a time saver, and, with this method, there are no bias edges. You can find the tutorial <b><a href="http://chezstitches.blogspot.com/2011/01/magic-8.html?m=1"> here</a></b>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I showed my finished "Birds in the Air" block to my Facebook friends. One of them asked me if I cut everything out at one time, or if I cut, sew, and make a block; cut, sew, and make a block. I always cut everything out at one time. Cutting out at one time is such a time saver for me. I was anxious to see if my sewing had accurate seams on the first one just to see if I needed to make any adjustments. I would rather my units be too big rather than too little, so I did move my needle over more than what I would at a scant 1/4". However, I made sure my needle went through the "x" in the seam between the half-square triangle and the blue wing. Sewing it that way means that my point is perfect. When I used my square up ruler, the block was a little bit bigger than 3 1/2", so I trimmed and now it's a perfect 3 1/2" square. If the other 165 are perfect 3 1/2" squares I will be one happy busy little quilter! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope to finish as many as I can this weekend in between working in the yard, and going to two graduation parties. </div>

<br />
I sort of got sidetracked with my <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2013/10/2013-mystery-time-introducing-celtic.html">Bonnie Hunter Celtic Solstice</a> when I kept making the same last 20 (of 167). Here is what a Chevron block looks like. I pinned it to a wallhanging that is on the wall right in front of me as I sew so I wouldn't sew the yellows together instead of the whites.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ux1zIK_9a44/U12OQXvVNdI/AAAAAAAAEO4/V2zObjZgjhM/s1600/IMG_1497.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ux1zIK_9a44/U12OQXvVNdI/AAAAAAAAEO4/V2zObjZgjhM/s1600/IMG_1497.JPG" height="205" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Although this one is perfect, not all of them were even though I measured twice, cut once, used a scant 1/4" seam, and pressed them. They seemed a little "wonky", and I wasn't happy. I probably could have squeezed and stretched them into my quilt, but I want my quilt to be straight in the end. <br />
<br />
One of the Celtic Solstice Mystery Facebook group members posted a paper piecing method in the files for making the Chevrons. I printed out how many I needed, and <i><b>avoided</b></i> paper piecing. To be honest, I love paper piecing and the look of perfect points. However, it is something I have to wrap my head around many, many times before I get it right. It is sewing backwards to me, and I'm backwards myself, so it takes me a while. I also know that no one can be talking to me, no TV, and no music until I get it straight in my head. <br />
<br />
I finally took the plunge this weekend and set aside time to re-teach myself how to paper piece after being inspired by Sarah at <a href="http://sewwhatsherlock.com/">Sew What Sherlock</a>. Sarah is a new to me blogger that I met on Instagram. She suggests the best tutorial/video about paper piecing is at <a href="http://connectingthreads.com/">Connecting Threads</a>, and I agree. You can see the video<a href="http://www.connectingthreads.com/tutorials/Foundation_Paper_Piecing-how_to_video__D81.html"> here </a>(and, by the way, their books are 40% off this week; free shipping if you spend $50 or more.) <br />
<br />
This was one of my first successes before I trimmed seams trimmed all the way around. I did press as I went, but I also suggest trimming the seam allowances as you go. I was too excited to stop and trim. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aLTY7DHN3Cg/U11HheevN2I/AAAAAAAAEOQ/9wGN8tIp8MA/s1600/IMG_1724.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aLTY7DHN3Cg/U11HheevN2I/AAAAAAAAEOQ/9wGN8tIp8MA/s1600/IMG_1724.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These were ones that the green fabric wasn't large enough, so I had to rip them out. I definitely had to have patience for this. At first I thought about just starting over, but it would have taken more time to cut everything again. Thanks to my favorite seam ripper from <a href="https://www.connectingthreads.com/tools/Clover_Seam_Ripper___________D81135.html">Clover</a>. I was able to rip the threads without ripping the paper. </div>

If you read my post below you can see that I have had a hard time with blogger lately. I lost my blog for a while, and now it's back, thank goodness. During that time, though, some things have changed between blogger and google, and to be honest, I'm a bit confused. I did read on some blogs (from bloggers who have wordpress) that they aren't able to post on blogspot blogs because of the settings they have as far as commenters. I changed my settings to take anonymous commenters so that people can leave comments. I thought about taking away the word verification, but to be honest, I am hoping it will help keep the spammers away. We will see how "anynomous" works and go from there. <br />

<br /></div>
Amazing grace for sure! I have been heartbroken about it. <br />
<div>
<br />
<div>
Here's the short version of the story: Go-Daddy sold my domain name; google apps pretended like they knew what was going on and said my blog was lost; the nice technician at blogger told me how to get my blog back, and now it's found!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Believe me when I say that is the short story!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I may not have been blogging, but I have been sewing. </div>

This is a Delectable Mountains from Quilt in a Day. It is a UFO from 2002. I finished it at Terry's birthday party "Sewing Weekend at the Lake". I gave it to Terry to quilt so I can enter it into our guild's quilt show this coming June. </div>

The kids said that I don't have any St.Patrick's Day quilts so I grabbed my Art to Heart books and got busy. This is one from her calendar books. (I apologize for no links. I'm not sure how to do links from my i-phone.)</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Santa and Mrs. Claus were eating lunch at Macaroni Grill. I went over to tell him I have been a good girl and</div>

</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
all I want for Christmas is a Reliable iron with a generator, quilting books, and fabric. Sounds good, right? </div>
<div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have managed to do some sewing on my Celtic Solstice every day, even if its 15 minutes here and there. </div>
<div>
I have not finished <a href="http://www.busylittlequilter.com/2013/12/every-year-i-have-great-intentions-of.html">clue 1</a> or <a href="http://www.busylittlequilter.com/2013/12/celtic-solstice-adventure-week-2.html">clue 2, </a>but I did start on Clue 3. And, with the tips from several other Celtic Solstice friends, they shared this<b><i> <a href="http://chezstitches.blogspot.com/2011/01/magic-8.html?m=1">great tutorial for making half square triangles 8 at a time</a></i></b>. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As soon as I discovered this, I cut out my orange and yellows </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-7f1YfleWqnQ/Uq8NY1MVLGI/AAAAAAAAEGs/W7-IepcS57g/s640/blogger-image-1124561280.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-7f1YfleWqnQ/Uq8NY1MVLGI/AAAAAAAAEGs/W7-IepcS57g/s640/blogger-image-1124561280.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
</div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
and drew the lines on all of them so I could chain piece one side right after the other and <i>zoom</i>, <i>zoom</i>, <i>zoom</i>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I <span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">will have lots of cute little 2" unfinished half square triangles to square up. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jvb493syMNE/Uq8NdULsWpI/AAAAAAAAEG0/698b7N71KCs/s640/blogger-image--2141097848.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-jvb493syMNE/Uq8NdULsWpI/AAAAAAAAEG0/698b7N71KCs/s640/blogger-image--2141097848.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
No more <i>zoom</i>, <i>zoom</i>, <i>zoom</i> at that point, but eventually they will turn into cute little 3 1/2" pinwheels. Squaring up to cut off the dog ears and little slivers takes time, but it's worth the effort. </div>

<br />
Usually the "before" photos are shown first, but I'm going to show you the "after" first. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uvS7OlfvFnc/UqZ8ZLAIj5I/AAAAAAAAEFs/xzHczJfMSj4/s1600/960250_10201142597422919_1914139607_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uvS7OlfvFnc/UqZ8ZLAIj5I/AAAAAAAAEFs/xzHczJfMSj4/s320/960250_10201142597422919_1914139607_n.jpg" width="260" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And now the before: <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-82O6L3KAXSs/UqZ8GQSMlHI/AAAAAAAAEFk/9mqnZlvu65Y/s1600/Earthquake+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-82O6L3KAXSs/UqZ8GQSMlHI/AAAAAAAAEFk/9mqnZlvu65Y/s1600/Earthquake+3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And now you understand why I'm squealing! This new discovery has opened up a whole world of quilt hanging possibilities.<br />
<br />
Take care! <br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Bonnie posted her clue for week two bright and early Friday morning. I haven't felt this much excitement in a while. It makes me feel like a little kid waiting to see what Bonnie has posted. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Friday morning, as I sat looking at the instructions and trying out a block or two, I could hear it icing outside. I knew I was going to be inside for the weekend, which is fine with me. As long as the electricity stayed on, and my children made it home safe, to and from work, that's all that mattered to me! </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">By Friday afternoon it looked like this at my best friend, Terry's house, and probably my house, too, but I didn't go outside. This is Terry's barn. It looks so sweet with a quilt block mounted on it, and the snow all around.</span> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: right;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">I would love to have a barn with a quilt block on it. At least I can enjoy hers. </span><br />

30 minutes. Or I would cut for 30 minutes and clean for 30 minutes.
That way I wasn't spending all of my time decorating for Christmas or cleaning,
and I could play in my sewing room, too! I will probably do the same 30
minutes here and there when I'm drawing lines on the backs of my 966 squares
with my little tool and mechanical pencil for drawing the diagonal lines. </span><br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p_UgIrnolJY/Upv8jo720FI/AAAAAAAAECQ/6EmCIjNrmlc/s1600/Paddy125.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p_UgIrnolJY/Upv8jo720FI/AAAAAAAAECQ/6EmCIjNrmlc/s1600/Paddy125.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Every year I have great intentions of participating in one of <a href="http://www.quiltville.blogspot.com/">Bonnie Hunter's</a> mystery quilts. And that's as far as it gets. I decided this year would be different, and so far I have been busy getting everything prepared. <br />
<br />
The first clue was to show us what colors she suggests we use. She did this by showing us paint chips and what numbers to look for when we shopped at our local Lowes. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bFGE1WVm1Os/Upv_UKJaHLI/AAAAAAAAEDY/37tO9apTYzs/s1600/1461121_10200974557142017_2002319247_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bFGE1WVm1Os/Upv_UKJaHLI/AAAAAAAAEDY/37tO9apTYzs/s1600/1461121_10200974557142017_2002319247_n.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, off to Lowes I went to get my paint chips. I wasn't sure if paint chips were free or not (if I wasn't buying paint), so I looked for something cheap I could buy so I wouldn't feel like a shop lifter. I walked by several gift ideas for my husband for Christmas, but when I saw this roll of polka dot duct tape</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rUEfgkImt54/Upv_Dk_C0UI/AAAAAAAAECg/u2DLnATqtHI/s1600/482427_10200974566262245_1124250268_n+-+Copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rUEfgkImt54/Upv_Dk_C0UI/AAAAAAAAECg/u2DLnATqtHI/s320/482427_10200974566262245_1124250268_n+-+Copy.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had to have it. And, by the way, paint chips are free even if you aren't buying paint. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now that I had my paint chips I could look through my scraps to see what I had on hand. I even opened up UFO projects that I know I'm not going to finish, and I pulled fabrics from them that could be used in the quilt. These colors aren't colors that I would choose to make a quilt, but it surprised me how much of these colors that I have in my stash! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Bonnie announced that the first clue would be given to us the day after Thanksgiving. I felt like a kid on Christmas Eve excited to see what was going to be under the Christmas tree the next morning. I tried my best not to think about it while my family and I were celebrating Thanksgiving, but it was hard! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Early the next day the first clue was given. Immediately, I printed off the instructions, and began cutting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided that I wanted to cut a few and sew them just to see if my cutting was correct, or my 1/4" seam, and just to see how it would look! And, this is what I ended up with...</div>

Many other bloggers are making this quilt, too. Bonnie is creating a Mr. Linky every Monday during the duration of the mystery quilt until the big reveal. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My Scrap Basket Sunday includes a new project and a tutorial, sort of , on how I choose fabrics for a project. </div>

I love the Button-Up Wall-hangings from <a href="http://joinedatthehip.com/">Joined at the Hip</a>. Since August is coming up soon, I should get this made! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9g7SwBl-3SM/UeKiFfW84WI/AAAAAAAAD-M/lTGpUCMzLZU/s1600/DSC_0859.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9g7SwBl-3SM/UeKiFfW84WI/AAAAAAAAD-M/lTGpUCMzLZU/s320/DSC_0859.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I looked at the pattern and it said that I needed light greens. Hmm. I don't have too many light greens, so I looked in my scrap buckets of greens and didn't see anything. I remembered that I had bought a log cabin watermelon kit years ago. I like to add fabrics from my stash to kits that I buy, but this one didn't work well (at all!) I tend to gravitate toward the olive greens when I'm buying fabric, and the greens in this kit didn't play well together with my stash, so it sat on a shelf for years. It had some light greens. Yay! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xoHCPj2g12c/UeKhmjIF-nI/AAAAAAAAD9E/OLPkuLsqwAk/s1600/DSC_0850+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xoHCPj2g12c/UeKhmjIF-nI/AAAAAAAAD9E/OLPkuLsqwAk/s320/DSC_0850+-+Copy.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pattern said I needed 6 light greens. I held them up to my fabrics in my scrap bucket of greens, and I didn't see anything that would work. I held them up to the greens in my fabric stash, and I found two fabrics that would work (woo hoo!). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B62TVaL_Abo/UeKhjnURawI/AAAAAAAAD88/djNwZRL3_d4/s1600/DSC_0849+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-B62TVaL_Abo/UeKhjnURawI/AAAAAAAAD88/djNwZRL3_d4/s320/DSC_0849+-+Copy.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I probably could have used two of the light greens twice, but the more the merrier! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My plan was to use the greens and reds that I used in my<a href="http://www.busylittlequilter.com/2013/05/scrap-basket-sunday_26.html"> watermelon wallhanging</a>. However, when I added the darker greens to the light greens my stomach turned. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KTCq6w6XvXM/UeKhq6fYEdI/AAAAAAAAD9M/c9l3YOT3B-A/s1600/DSC_0851+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KTCq6w6XvXM/UeKhq6fYEdI/AAAAAAAAD9M/c9l3YOT3B-A/s320/DSC_0851+-+Copy.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<span style="text-align: left;"> The darker greens were olive and the lighter greens have more blue in them. So, I went back to the kit and pulled out the darker greens. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: left;"></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n5Wm1MQV5B4/UeKhztjJ8AI/AAAAAAAAD9k/h66stbMMvVA/s1600/DSC_0854.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-n5Wm1MQV5B4/UeKhztjJ8AI/AAAAAAAAD9k/h66stbMMvVA/s320/DSC_0854.JPG" width="320" /></a></span></div>
<span style="text-align: left;">
</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pretty! And to think I was going to donate this kit to my Quilt Guild's sales table at our quilt show next year. They look great with the light greens, and the reds that I used in my watermelon wall-hanging. I needed 6 dark greens, but every time I added a dark green, they were all too olive. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My favorite trick is to use my color wheel. I will be honest when I say that I'm not able to determine if a color has too much yellow, red, or blue in them. Some fabrics I can tell right away, but others not so much. Using the color wheel helps me "see". I held it up to all of the greens in my scrap bucket of greens. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EoK5Oz5cdfQ/UeKh62H6MjI/AAAAAAAAD90/VCeYzSweDsw/s1600/DSC_0856+-+Copy.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EoK5Oz5cdfQ/UeKh62H6MjI/AAAAAAAAD90/VCeYzSweDsw/s320/DSC_0856+-+Copy.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I would have never chosen this piece had I not seen it for myself that it is in the same color family as the greens in the kit. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I wouldn't have added this Thimbleberry print, either, </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FpITryriuvU/UeKiDiJVK0I/AAAAAAAAD-E/u5ExOu2_w88/s1600/DSC_0858.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FpITryriuvU/UeKiDiJVK0I/AAAAAAAAD-E/u5ExOu2_w88/s320/DSC_0858.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
but it looks perfect! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I probably could have used the same greens more than once; it's a wall-hanging, afterall. However, I like the challenge of trying to find things that will work. It's the hunt, I guess, that's fun for me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am happy to say that I have finished all 80 of the bow-tie blocks that I have been sewing while sewing together the Quick and Easy Pinwheel that I showed you last week in <a href="http://www.busylittlequilter.com/2013/05/scrap-basket-sunday_26.html">this</a> post. . Sewing every day with <a href="http://patsloan.typepad.com/">Pat Sloan</a> in her Sew Every Day in July 2013 Challenge and sewing two (or more, in my case) quilts at the same time, as suggested by <a href="http://quiltville.blogspot.com/">Bonnie Hunter</a> in her Leaders and Enders book, has my sewing room with projects on each side of me to sew in between whatever project I am currently sewing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

It can be a few stitches to sew on a binding, cutting out a quilt, sewing for a few minutes, or all day, by hand or machine. You can read more about Pat's Sew Every Day in July Challenge<a href="http://blog.patsloan.com/2013/07/pat-sloan-july-2013-sew-every-day-challenge.html"> here</a>.<br />
<br />
My first day was spent straightening up my sewing room. I had fabrics that needed to be folded, and I did some rearranging. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_qzlSy881S8/UdkWDajejsI/AAAAAAAAD74/TxWj2CWEg5E/s1600/DSC_0862.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="175" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_qzlSy881S8/UdkWDajejsI/AAAAAAAAD74/TxWj2CWEg5E/s320/DSC_0862.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
I can't believe I'm showing you this photo. I have some decluttering to do. It's always a work in progress. This isn't all of my fabric, by the way. I keep my seasonal fabrics (Valentines Day, St. Patricks Day, Easter, Patriotic, Halloween, and Christmas) in other places because I don't use them all the time. <br />
<br />
Back to the Challenge...<br />
<br />
While straightening up my sewing room, I started looking through some of my UFO boxes. I found a Bow Tie quilt that I had started about 7 years ago. I already had all of the pieces made, and all of them were sewn together except for the final seam that joins the top part of the bowtie to the bottom part. I'm sure you're wondering why I didn't finish. I am wondering that, as well! <br />
<br />
In the meantime, I was reading in <a href="http://quiltville.com/">Bonnie Hunter's</a> book<u> Leaders and Enders</u> that you can sew two quilts at the same time by using blocks in one project as a leader (instead of a fabric scrap) and as an ender (instead of another fabric scrap). I thought this would be a great idea for the project I have been working on for Kim's <a href="http://kimsbigquiltingadventure.blogspot.com/">Scrap Basket Sunday.</a> <br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I put my half completed bow tie blocks beside my sewing machine and every time I sewed a seam on my Quick and Easy Pinwheel scrap quilt, I picked up a bowtie block and completed it. <br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I am almost finished sewing all 80 of the bowtie blocks, and I have more blocks to sew in the Quick and Easy Pinwheel. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I really like the idea of sewing two quilts at the same time. I'm sure I have more unfinished projects that are almost put together like this bow-tie. There is no telling how many UFO's I could sew at the same time. I'm too afraid to look! Hopefully, with Pat's Sew Every Day in July Challenge will result in several finishes! After all, a few minutes here, a few minutes there, and voila! you have a finished quilt top (or two). </div>

Have a great day! </div>

I love seasonal wallhangings and quilts. There are 12 wallhangings in this series. I have March, June, July, and October completed. November's top is finished. I have January's cut and ready to piece. August is on my cutting table. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="text-align: start;">It wasn't my intention when I started to blog, again, that I only posted on Scrap Basket Sundays! I have been a busy little quilter getting a quilting class together, and I have been out of town teaching classes for a quilting </span>club in Illinois. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
My Scrap Basket Sunday project features a class that I hope to be teaching at a quilters retreat called <a href="http://runawayquilters.com/">Runaway Quilters</a>. It depends on whether or not people sign up for my class as to whether or not I will be teaching. Registration closes soon (it has to be postmarked on July 1). Either way, it's one more fall themed quilt to add to my collection! </div>

<br />
The quilt is called "Feels Like Fall". It is designed by the <a href="http://joinedatthehip.com/">Joined at the Hip</a> girls, and was featured on the cover of <a href="http://allpeoplequilt.com/">American Patchwork and Quilting</a>, October 2008 issue. <br />
<br />
This quilt consists of scraps from my collection as well as scraps from Avis and Tammy's (the joined at the hip girls). How fun is that? I used a few homespuns and Civil War fabrics from their stash, and added in some of my Civil War scraps. The darker pumpkins came from my stash. <br />
<br />
Tonight I will be sewing the back together so that I can take it to Terry (bff with a long arm quilting machine) for her to quilt for me. As always, she will do her "magic" and make it even more beautiful. <br />
<br />
I'm still busy unpacking my bags from my teaching trip. It's such a rewarding experience to share the love of quilting with others. <br />
<br />
Take care! <br />

It's another Scrap Basket Sunday at<a href="http://kimsbigquiltingadventure.blogspot.com/"> Kim's</a> blog! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I look forward to seeing what Kim and everyone else doing with their scraps.<br />
<br />
This week I was busy working on my June wallhanging. I layered my backing, batting, and top together, and used the machine applique as part of my quilting. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7U0f3fqQbE8/UbT8Zx2yGKI/AAAAAAAAD5Q/Bw9u5r1SSJo/s1600/DSC_0211.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7U0f3fqQbE8/UbT8Zx2yGKI/AAAAAAAAD5Q/Bw9u5r1SSJo/s320/DSC_0211.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
After I was finished appliqueing, I was ready to machine quilt, which is something I rarely ever do. They say you should relax, drink a glass of wine (I would fall asleep), take a deep breath, and go for it. I am an over thinker, and, to be honest, I was ready to pick up the phone and call Terry (bff with a long-arm) and ask her to quilt it for me. Instead, I <strike>put on my big girl panties</strike> went to my library of quilting books and pulled out Pat Sloan's book, <u><a href="http://patsloan.biz/learntomachinequiltwithpatsloan-2.aspx">Learn to Machine Quilt with Pat Sloan</a>.</u><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oF8Dbw_u4i4/UbT8fFUFFiI/AAAAAAAAD5s/p9dO200-OXs/s1600/DSC_0219.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oF8Dbw_u4i4/UbT8fFUFFiI/AAAAAAAAD5s/p9dO200-OXs/s320/DSC_0219.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
The book has step by step instructions on how to set up your machine, how to get your top ready to machine quilt, and there are diagrams of different quilting designs. She even has projects that you can make to practice your machine quilting skills. <br />
<br />
Practice...now that's a powerful word. It's one I heard often when I took piano lessons when I was younger. The more you practice the better you get, and it's the same way with machine quilting. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-esELVqknBQI/UbT8ehXPMpI/AAAAAAAAD5o/F_Xj5jWuRcE/s1600/DSC_0216.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-esELVqknBQI/UbT8ehXPMpI/AAAAAAAAD5o/F_Xj5jWuRcE/s320/DSC_0216.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
As you can see, I need more practice! Oh yes I do! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2J0s4XmIR8Q/UbT8cYdBRrI/AAAAAAAAD5c/j8vqp31uafc/s1600/DSC_0214.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2J0s4XmIR8Q/UbT8cYdBRrI/AAAAAAAAD5c/j8vqp31uafc/s320/DSC_0214.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
I finished quilting it, but I think I need more. I put it back on my design wall in my hall to see exactly what it needs. I really like the idea of quilting in the center of the flowers, like I did above. The fence area is a little puffy, so I think I am going to do some straight-line quilting in the fence area, and maybe veins in the leaves, and more quilting in the centers of the flowers. <br />
<br />
I took a break from quilting, and made a few more blocks to the scrap quilt I started. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YKIPg0Q0m7E/UbT8YZuMEFI/AAAAAAAAD5M/GETJfbMUtdY/s1600/DSC_0213.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YKIPg0Q0m7E/UbT8YZuMEFI/AAAAAAAAD5M/GETJfbMUtdY/s320/DSC_0213.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
I'm anxious to see what this quilt is going to look like. It's the first time I have used scrappy prints in the background. I think it's going to be pretty! <br />
<br />
Now I'm ready to see what Kim and everyone else worked on this week! <br />
<br />
Take care! <br />

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Happy Sunday! It's a beautiful day here in KY, especially after having rainy weather all weekend. Thankfully, the storms weren't as strong as what our weather forecasters were predicting. My thoughts and prayers are with those who were affected by tornadoes, again, in Oklahoma, and in Missouri, as well, and it continues today in the northeast. <br />
<br />
It's another Scrap Basket Sunday! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm linking up with <a href="http://kimsbigquiltingadventure.blogspot.com/">Kim</a> and the rest of the creative Scrap Basket Sunday quilters. I look forward to seeing what everyone has done with their scraps this week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I worked on my <a href="http://joinedathehip.com/">June Button-Up</a> wall-hanging, in between shopping with my grand daughter, working in my flower beds, and painting my picket fence around my little garden. Although I don't like strong storms and all that it can bring with it, I do welcome a nice rain that helps saves me time from having to go out and water twice a day; that leaves me a little more time to sew! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7PL8pXDoiMI/UatdIX4Y-WI/AAAAAAAAD44/wz2us2tzUPU/s1600/DSC_0210-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7PL8pXDoiMI/UatdIX4Y-WI/AAAAAAAAD44/wz2us2tzUPU/s320/DSC_0210-001.JPG" width="181" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really like the way this is turning out. I love that I was able to find pinks in my scrap baskets to use for the hollyhocks. The pink and brown stripe was just sitting on my shelf; leftover from using it as a back of a graduation quilt I made a couple of years ago. I bought the little check for the background, a couple of years ago, because I needed something with small checks to give texture and interest to whatever I was making. For this wall-hanging I couldn't decide if I wanted the check or a blue (for sky), but I'm glad I chose the check because it looks like a great day with a little bit of cloud coverage. </div>
<br />
This week I will spend time appliqueing everything. It is June, afterall, and I need to get this quilted fast. I plan to use the appliqueing as my quilting (I layer everything, and applique as it quilts it at the same time. It's sort of a two-fer.) with a little bit of quilting in the open spaces. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My soil may not can grow Hollyhocks, but it can grow Sunflowers. The ground is nice and wet; perfect for planting seeds (and pulling weeds). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great day! </div>

Be sure to look at the quilt I finished in May and posted in my One Project a Month. You can see it <a href="http://www.busylittlequilter.com/2013/05/one-project-month-finish.html">here</a>. It's perfect for scrap quilts. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have joined <a href="http://happyinquilting.blogspot.com/">Peg</a> and <a href="http://tagalongteddies.blogspot.com/">Kris</a> in their One Project a Month Challenge. Our quilting projects must be fully completed (quilted and bound) before they are considered finished. </div>
<br />
This month I finished my Personality Plus quilt designed by <a href="http://piecesfrommyheart.com/">Sandy Gervais</a>. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z3Myb0JYKUY/UalR3bjdsqI/AAAAAAAAD4I/BJmldIApw0M/s1600/DSC_0207-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z3Myb0JYKUY/UalR3bjdsqI/AAAAAAAAD4I/BJmldIApw0M/s320/DSC_0207-001.JPG" width="281" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I used a <a href="http://figtreequilts.com/">Fig Tree</a> layer cake (I think it is Breakfast at Tiffany's) and a dark brown for contrast. I was trying to find a fabric line to match a particular color of blue that I was painting my office. This one was perfect. I painted my office (a year ago), and it has been waiting patiently for the quilt. This pattern would be pretty made of scraps, or any fabric theme such as fruits and vegetables, bugs, patriotic, civil war prints, 30's prints, Christmas, Halloween...you name it, and it would be perfect. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The quilt was quilted by my best friend, Terry, on her Gammill long arm quilting machine. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Terry makes my quilts gorgeous with her free motion quilting. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br>
I missed last Sunday because it was Mother's Day. We celebrated all weekend, which made it really special. Every once in a while I would sneek in into my quilting studio to dig through my tubs of scraps to find enough dark fabric prints to be able to cut (2) 6 1/2" squares for a workshop I was taking. You can see my post about it <a href="http://www.busylittlequilter.com/2013/05/digging-through-my-scraps.html"><b>here</b></a>. What I thought would take a little bit of time here and there, ended up taking me more time that I expected. Cutting quilts from scraps takes a lot of time, but in the end it's worth it. <br>
<br>
You can see my stack of 6 1/2" squares I was able to find in my fabric cutting frenzy <b><a href="http://www.busylittlequilter.com/2013/05/fabric-cutting-frenzy.html"> here</a></b>. You will see fabrics I use in every scrap quilt I make. Maybe it will give you an idea when you make scrap quilts. <br>

<a href="http://handmadebyheidi.blogspot.com/">Heidi</a> had a Friday Night Sew-In that she does on the third Friday night of the month. My Friday night was spent appliqueing the seeds on the watermelons that I have been making during Scrap Basket Sundays. Saturday, I sewed rows together in between working in my flower beds. <br>

I have never used a variety of little prints for backgrounds. There are shirtings, little flowers, stripes, and I love the polka dots! </div>
