Friday my neighbor called to tell me that she and her husband are grandparents for the first time! I was so excited for them.
The first thing that came to my mind, is "I'll give them a baby quilt!". The next thing that came to my mind is "I wish I had baby quilts on hand". Now, wouldn't that be great if I had wedding quilts, graduation quilts, and baby quilts on hand just to give away whenever a friend or family member had something so special to celebrate? My intentions of having quilts on hand are good, but I don't think about it until something comes up. It sure helps, though, to have some quilt books or patterns on hand to make adorable quilts really fast.
Here is the baby quilt I made for my neighbor's grandson. The quilt is from the book Happy Hour from Terry Atkinson.
I bought the book this past summer and put it away with all of my other books. Then, a few weeks ago Pat Sloan suggested the book because of a quick and simple table runner. Terry Atkinson is known for her simple techniques to making complicated looking quilts easy to make. This quilt was fast, fun, and it's adorable!
I used 7 fat quarters to make it, so that means that I used 1 3/4 yards for the quilt top. I didn't have any fabric for the back of the quilt, so I went to Hancock Fabrics today and bought 2 yards.
I will be quilting it sometime this week. I'm not sure how I will quilt it, but I have a few ideas. Pat Sloan has a fantastic machine quilting book that teaches you step by step into the machine quilting process. She has some great ideas and simple techniques that you will be wondering why you haven't tried machine quilting before! Another neat way of quilting a quilt really quick is at Acorn Hill Quilts. Just click on "free projects" and you will find her lazy quilting design there. Niki linked her blogging friends to this site about a year ago. It's easy to do, and fast; it's perfect for scrappy baby quilts.
National Quilting Day is this coming Saturday, March 15. Join those of us who visit Pat's blog or are in her yahoo group to sew quilts for charity and make something adorable for ourselves. Door prizes will be given away, too!
Also, a reminder about the next Quiltathon. Judy has set the date for Tuesday, March 18.
Stashbusting for this week: 1 3/4 yards used
2 yards bought
Have fun!

Love your "Snapshots" quilt. I made that in lime green and hot pink for granddaughter. It will be her Christmas present this year. I can't wait to see how you will quilt it. I sent mine out and have to pick the quilt pattern soon.
