Back to School

Speaking of butterflies in my garden (look at the other message I posted today) look at this beautiful butterfly I found fluttering around my hyacinth bean vine, marigolds, and petunias! It's Julia!

She's flying off to 10th grade after she poses for her yearly "First Day of School" picture.

This summer has gone by so fast. We've had lots of fun, though. I usually cry the first day of school, but I know she is ready to set off on her new adventure of making new friends, and conquering new academic challenges. She is, afterall, my little social butterfly. As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. She gets her social butterfly wings from me!

I have taught her well.

And so what does every little social butterfly need after being busy all day meeting new teachers and making new friends? Chocolate Chip cookies, of course!

I always make the kids in the neighborhood cookies on the first day of school. Over the years kids (their older sisters) have grown and gone off to college (one of them is Julia's teacher), but Natalie and Hunter are still around. As soon as I called them to tell them I had chocolate chip cookies made for them, they were at my door! It was fun listening to them talk about their teachers and what classes they had.

I was inspired by Monica's photos she shot of her trip to the farm that I had to see what my butterfly quilt would look like in my garden.

I loved it so much, I had to make it my new header.

How do you like it?

Have a great day!

Amanda

  2. WOW !!What a gorgeous quilt!!!! AND the "butterfly" is a cutey too!! I can't believe she started school already.... I thought our kids went back early around here (8/27/08) since their cousins in the Phila area don't go back until after Labor Day. My "baby" is in 10th grade this year also (my 6 foot tall baby) and Kid #1 starts college ..... how did all that happen so fast?!?!?!?!?!!!!!

  3. I noticed you put your butterfly quilt in your header first off! Which is unusual for me, I'm not very observant of headers. But I love this quilt and it in the garden with the pretty fence is so darling. Your daughter is lovely. I have a 10th grader this year too. And a senior and a 8th grader. Next Monday starts school. Its always bitter sweet.

  7. I love this quilt and I know my MIL would especially love it since she's always loved butterflies. I have an old butterfly quilt that belonged to her mother but it's pretty beat up! I'm very sad about it! I'll have to pull it out and have a look at it again.
