Spring Break!

It's Spring Break, and I'm going to the beach! I'm so excited!

I always have to pack some beach reading material. My little beach bag is packed with my camera, an "American Patchwork and Quilting" magazine with a quilt designed by Pat Sloan on the front cover, Mark Lipinksi's "Quilter's Home", and a book written by Lisa Boyer called Stash Envy. I'm thinking this may go perfect with my overwhelming scrap collection.

I may have told you this, but I take my sewing machine on vacations with me, along with a few projects. Vacations are supposed to be relaxing and what could be more relaxing? I love the beach, and shopping, but my sewing machine helps during the times that could be boring. I don't like to be bored!

My star crossing that was on my design wall now looks like

this, with pins, notes, and all. I shot a picture of each 4 patch section with my digital camera. I then labeled each section as row 1 A, row 1, B, and so on. I also wrote on the little post it note the coordinating picture number on my SD card. This way when I lay the blocks out to sew, I can look at the picture on my digital camera, lay out the block, and start sewing!

To get in the mood of the beach scene I packed my flamingo quilt designed by Carol Burniston. She is Barbara Brandeburg's sister.

I will miss you guys, but I'll be back, soon.

Until then, have fun!

Amanda

  1. Have a wonderful time at the beach!!! I'm with you in spirit. We don't have Spring Break for another week. I just want to stay home and sew, sew, sew. I had to laugh when I saw your reading items. I just recieved Stash Envy in the mail this week. Maybe, we can comment on our favoite parts and see if we laughed at the same places. I haven't received my AQS yet. Maybe, it will be in the mail today. I did receive Quilter's Home and McCalls. I just love quilting magazines.

We will miss you! Have a great time!

  3. Amanda, what a great idea taking your machine. I'm wondering if I could take mine to the lake this summer. Actually the island on the lake. Hmmm. What fun could be had. You do seem to have your scraps together. I was thinking that when you posted about it lol. Have a great time, just don't let that sand get in your machine. Talk to you soon, Love Stacy

  4. Hmmm, I'm a little jealous! Although I do remember a few years back when no one else wanted to go down to our timeshare condo. I packed up my sewing machine, fabrics and tools, and a stack of paperback books and went alone. I missed the hub and the daughter, but had a great time all by myself!

  8. Have a great trip! I too, take projects with me. I made the sunflower quilt in the Whimsical Quilt book, it is at the quilters as we speak. I know you are going to have a good time with all of the fun projects and inspiring reading you have.

  11. Wow have fun. It snowed here today so I'm super envious. What could be better than beach/sewing? Add good food and a husband/friend and it can't get better. I like those sisters, too. Teri, the other sister, is my very favorite.

  13. Barbara Brandeburg has ANOTHER sister? I knew about Teri Christopherson, but I didn't know there were more talented gals in the family. I clicked over to Barbara's blog and I see there are apparently four! Wow! Have a wonderful vacation!
