Magnetic Curtain Rod Goes Quilty!
A couple of weeks ago I was at my daughter's house hanging curtains. One of the places that I needed to hang a curtain was over a metal door. I went to Walmart and found a magnetic curtain rod! Who knew? I had never seen nor heard of them before.
As I was hanging the curtain it dawned on me that if I can hang curtains from this little rod, I could also hang a cute quilted wall hanging!!!!
At my house my back doors to my patio and the front door to the house is metal. When you open my front door you can see into the kitchen. And when you are in the kitchen you can see the back of the front door. It's kinda boring looking don't you think?
I ripped open the package (it doesn't take much to get me excited about the possiblity of a new place to hang a quilt) and tried her out! Perfect don't you think? There are no brackets to drill, no nails to hammer in; just a couple of magnets that will hold a cute, adjustable curtain rod.
Let's see...hmmmm...what quilt will I use to hang on the back of the front door so I can see if I like this idea or not? Oh. Here's one. It doesn't have a sleeve on the back, but oh well. Terry (bff/no blog) made this for me a few years ago when our guild was presented with a challenge: "The Brown Bag Special". We were to gather 4 fat quarters and some other fabric, and put it in a brown paper bag. When we came to the next guild meeting, we gave our paper bags filled with fabric to the chairperson/friend, Deanna, and she passed the bags around to all the participants while making sure she didn't give us our own brown bag!
The funny part about all of this is that Terry was at my house the day I was trying to figure out what fabric to choose for my "Brown Bag Special". As a joke to the person who was going to choose my bag, we thought it would be funny to give them a pack of fat quarters I had won at a retreat. I didn't know what to do with the pink and purple fabric collection. Whoever got my bag really had a challenge to make me something beautiful!
For several months we kept it a secret about whose brown bag of fabric we were given. Finally, it was time for the reveal. Guess who got my bag? That's right!! Terry!!! The joke was on her!! I loved it. It's so much prettier than what I could have ever imagined to make with those fabrics!
And here's the quilt hanging on the back of my front door on its magnetic curtain rod gone quilty. Please pretend that the clips aren't there. I was too excited about this discovery and I didn't have time to go upstairs and sew on a sleeve. I wanted to get this idea to you asap just in case you too have a blank metal back of a front door staring at you every time you're baking chocolate chip cookies or Italian Cream Cake!
That's better!!! Here's a closer look!
Hmmm....What other possibilities might I find around my house that could benefit from a pretty little quilt hanging on it my it's quilty magnetic curtain rod? A dishwasher??
Oh! Oh! I just thought about the refrigerator!!!! Refrigerator quilts. How fun!
