Watermelon Patch on Design Wall

Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Today I sat down and worked on my watermelon quilt that I cut out the other day.  It felt good to sew.  I was really amazed that I made all of these in a few hours that I put them on my design wall, and shot their picture to show you!

Fast and large block quilts are fun to make, and they serve a purpose (baby quilts, graduation quilts, quilts for the grand kids to snuggle with), but, if I don't make a half square triangle or a corner square every once in a while, I find that I have to practice sewing them to remember how to make them!  Do you find yourself having to work on your skills, too, after making a few easy quilts?

My next step is to applique the watermelon seeds.  The pattern says to cut them from wool or felt, but I am going to use black fabric.  There are 50 of them, so it will take time to trace, cut out, fuse, and applique.

Speaking of graduation quilts,  be sure to check out the graduation quilt I made for my daughter.  I "entered" it into the Bloggers Quilt Festival.  I still have to attach the binding and sew a sleeve on the back to hang in my quilt guild's quilt show.

Until next time...
